The Qualifying Exam
The Fall 2008 Qualifying exam will be offered on
Friday, August 22, 2008. If you are planning on
taking the exam, please hand in the Qualifying Examination
Advisement Sheet signed by your adviser to the
graduate office by Monday, July 21. As a reminder, you
MUST take the exam within one year from your enrolling
as a Ph.D. student, and if you are planning to graduate
under the non-thesis option with a MS degree.
Here is the rule for ECE Qualifying Examination:

A graduate student can take the Qual exam at most twice
in his/her M.S. or Ph.D. program.
I) For a M.S. student, a possible outcome can be
I.a) pass at the MS level
I.b) fail at the MS level
I.c) pass at the PhD level
II) For a Ph.D. student, a possible outcome can be
II.a) pass at the PhD level
II.b) fail at the PhD level
II.c) fail at the PhD level, but pass at the MS level
