Suspension & Dismissal

A student on academic probation during any regular semester or summer session may, at the end of that semester or session, be suspended from the University if the condition for the academic probation has not been removed.

A student on academic probation and not making satisfactory progress towards a School of Engineering degree may be dismissed from the Engineering School.

A student who accumulates 30 or more attempted credit hours of D, F, or WF shall be dismissed from the School of Engineering.

A student on Engineering School Probation during any regular semester or summer session may, at the end of that semester or session, be dismissed from the Engineering School if the condition for the Engineering School Probation has not been removed.

No student is subject to suspension from the University or dismissal from the School of Engineering until the end of the semester or summer session in which the cumulative hours attempted at UNM exceeds 16.

A student will be suspended for one semester for the first suspension, one academic year for the second suspension, and five academic years for the third. Note: summer sessions are excluded from the calculation of the suspension periods.

A student dismissed from the School of Engineering may not apply for readmission to the School of Engineering for a minimum period of one calendar year from the date of dismissal. A student dismissed from the School of Engineering may transfer to another college in the University subject to that college's regulations. However, a student dismissed from the School of Engineering is not permitted to register for any course offered by the School of Engineering. Also, a student who has been suspended from the University while enrolled in the School of Engineering, and who has been admitted to any unit of the University other than the School of Engineering after the suspension is terminated, is not permitted to register for any course offered by the School of Engineering.
